BEYOND | 3-Night Supported Life-Skills Program | NDMHS

NDMHS presents

BEYOND

Beyond the Familiar. Into the Possible.

Supported Outdoor Life-Skills & Community Participation Program

Three nights in Port Macquarie, practising the everyday things that are easier to learn somewhere new. Planning a meal. Handling a budget. Finding your way around an unfamiliar town. Nine people, each working on their own goals, with support set up around what you actually need.

No fee and no commitment. Registering your interest starts a conversation. It does not book or reserve a place.

What BEYOND is

A skills program that happens to be outdoors

It is not a holiday and we are careful not to describe it as one. Four days away is the setting, not the point. The point is coming home able to do something you could not do comfortably before.

  1. Meal planning and cooking

Working out what the group eats, what it costs, and who does what.

Could you plan dinner for nine? It starts with a menu, a shopping list and a budget.
  2. Daily living and organisation

Morning routines, keeping track of your things, packing for the day ahead.

Using a checklist, sequencing a task, noticing when you need a hand.
  3. Teamwork and communication

Sharing a space with eight other people and sorting out who does what.

Saying what you need, asking a question, handling a change of plan.
  4. Community access and confidence

Ordering lunch, paying for it, getting yourself from one place to another.

Reading signs, asking for directions, managing your own money in a shop.

The shape of it

Four days, four themes

Every activity is optional or adaptable, with rest built in. What you take part in is decided with you beforehand, not sprung on you on the day.

Day one

Own Your Space

Travel up from Sydney, set up camp, then plan and shop for the first group dinner.

Day two

Find Your Way

Nature walks, finding your way around town, ordering and paying for your own lunch.

Day three

Give It a Go

A small-group quest, an activity you choose yourself, and a team cook-off.

Day four

Take It Home

Pack down, look back at what you did, and pick one thing to keep practising at home.

From our last trip

What you would actually be sleeping in

Most people who ask about BEYOND have never camped. Here is the real thing, photographed on our previous trip, so nobody has to guess.

A large family-sized tent pitched on grass at a coastal campsite
Shared tents, pitched for you before you arrive.
The inside of a tent with bedding, a mat and a packed bag
Inside: a mat, bedding and room for your own things.
Grass foreshore beside a painted rock breakwall on the coast
Flat, walkable foreshore a short stroll from camp.

Photographs are from a previous NDMHS trip and are illustrative. The venue for January is still being confirmed.

Who it is open to

You do not have to be an NDMHS client

BEYOND is open to adults across Sydney. Every applicant has a private conversation about goals, support needs and costs before anything is confirmed.

Current NDMHS clients

Already working with us? Talk to your support worker or register below, whichever is easier.

External NDIS participants

With another provider, or self-managed. Whether supports can be funded is worked out individually against your plan.

Privately paying

Not on the NDIS. You can still apply, and you will get an itemised written quote before you agree to anything.

After you register

What actually happens next

Nobody is asked for money or a decision until step four.

  1. Step 01

    We call you

Within two business days. A short chat about what caught your interest and what you would like to get more confident doing.

  2. Step 02

    You get the details

A plain-language program sheet and an honest estimate of personal costs, so you can decide properly.

  3. Step 03

    A private conversation

Support needs, access, medication, overnight arrangements. Confidential, and it shapes what we offer you.

  4. Step 04

    A written offer

Itemised costs, what is included and the cancellation terms, in writing. Only then do you decide.

Questions

The things people ask first

If yours is not here, call 0483 044 703 and ask. You will get a person, not a form.

I have never camped before. Is that a problem?

No. Most people coming have not. Staff handle the set-up and the gear, and you are shown how everything works rather than expected to already know. Trying something for the first time is the whole idea.

Does the NDIS pay for this?

Sometimes, partly, and it depends on you. Disability-related support can be funded where it matches your plan and the current NDIS rules. Ordinary costs like accommodation, food and activity entry are usually yours to pay, the same as they would be at home.

We go through this individually and put it in writing before you agree to anything. Nobody should be guessing about money.

What will it cost me?

Costs are still being confirmed with the venue, so quoting a figure now would be guessing. You will get an itemised written quote before any agreement, showing what is a personal expense and what is a funded support.

I need support overnight. Can you manage that?

Possibly, and that is exactly what the private conversation is for. Sleep, supervision, medication and personal care are assessed individually and staffing is built around the group that actually goes. If we cannot safely provide what you need on this particular trip, we will tell you honestly and talk about alternatives.

What about accessibility?

Tell us what you need and we check it against the site before anyone is offered a place: bathrooms, showers, parking, quiet spaces, noise and travel tolerance. We look at reasonable adjustments first rather than ruling people out.

Who else is going?

Up to nine adults, a mix of current NDMHS clients and people joining from outside. Small on purpose. Nine is the number where everyone still gets individual attention and the group stays manageable.

Am I committing to anything by registering?

No. There is no fee, no deposit and no obligation. Registering your interest means we will contact you with more information. You can stop at any point, including after you have seen the costs.

Put your hand up

Tell us how to reach you and we will have a chat. It costs nothing and it does not reserve a place.
